It’s okay to have freckles when you’re 11 or 12. But if you’re 37, well, that’s a different story. Besides, being overly freckled could be a sign your skin is unhealthy. The concern being freckles appear when your skin is exposed to too much sun for too long.

That’s right. Freckles on your face or other parts of your body are caused by radiation from the sun. What used to fade away naturally after a few months after summer was past doesn’t as you age. They start to become more permanent especially on your nose and forehead.

Freckles Defined: These are small, flat spots on your skin and color ranges from red, light tan to brown.

Generally freckles are harmless. As long as they are pink in color and do not bulge you may ignore them. However, other signs like liver spots or dark rosy red bumps on your skin may need to be checked out further.

By using a good sunscreen you can slow down or prevent more freckles on your skin. Which is why you want to put a thin layer of sunscreen with SPF 30 especially on your face before leaving the house. This will protect your skin for about 6 hours.

Okay, but what to do if you already have them?

You can use a formulated fading cream to make your freckles disappear. You may be expecting not to see your freckles the next day but it doesn’t work that way. It may take a few months to really see a difference but it’s all worth the wait.

There are home remedies that can slowly erase freckles too. They are mostly things you likely already have in your pantry.

Buttermilk and salt also have the same effect and can be used in combination with the others mentioned previously.

Another great home remedy that’s cheap is your fruit masks. They also play a vital role as natural moisturizers. Just be sure to wash them off completely after.

Remember, all these ingredients have a common denominator and that is the skin bleaching effect. This means you have to wait for a few months to see a big difference.

Sadly most home remedies, as well as over-the-counter creams, may lighten your freckles but they are not permanent. As soon as you step out into the sun your freckles will start to make a repeat appearance.

But if you’re looking for a permanent solution, go with green laser treatment. This will slowly erase your freckles by altering their color to your skin’s natural color.

Although most people are okay with having freckles, others may see it as nagging imperfections. They will try everything from fading creams to home remedies to laser treatment. Others are content to just live with them not concerned enough to change anything. They just accept the fact that freckles make them who they are.
