Alopecia hair loss is something that affects mostly men in their older years. However it can happen to either gender at any time for myriad reasons. Alopecia is the umbrella term for any kind of unwanted hair loss. It does not apply to people who are bald by choice or by their own doing. It can be horribly embarrassing to many people and most try different tactics to keep their hair.
The most common one is male pattern baldness, which is very common. Due to aging and genetics, the hair follicles weaken and hair falls out or becomes thinner–and does not grow back. There are dozens of medical conditions that can cause this.
It can sometimes be a side effect of medications or be due to stress. The important thing is to talk to your doctor about why you may be suffering from it and what can be done.
Most men accept it as an inevitability. Other try desperately to hide it. A common way of hiding it is the comb over hairdo where men let a few strands grow long and they they brush it over their bald head to fool people into believing they have a full head of hair.
